Hyundai Verna as the name suggests is one of the most popular cars in the C segment sedans as its diesel engines is one of the most refined in its class, Also the features Hyundai has been offering in one of the last generation Verna Models were absolutely useful and good. As the rival companies bring changes to its sedans as Honda introduced the next gen city, Maruti brought the Ciaz, Hyundai realized it late and finally brought the next gen Verna to handle the competition. How it will stack to its rivals we find out.
EXTERIORS:- ( 8/10)
Hyundai is known for its stylish fluidic design language and inspired by that company has designed the new Verna. The new stylish elongated headlamps look nice and have a great look when viewed from the front, The arrow shaped design covering the fog lamps below also looks nice with chrome surrounds, Though i don’t like excessive chrome out there but hyundai has tried to make chrome look minimum. I also like the H logo sitting at the middle with new line shaped grille as it helps to make the car look neat and classy.
What i don’t like is at the back as it looks more like a crossover than a regular sedan as the boot at the back is little chopped over as i was expecting the boot to be more big. At 480 liter i feel the boot is still lot smaller when compared to its rivals. Last gen to current gen, the Hyundai Verna has grown 65mm in length and also sits on a 30mm longer wheelbase and interestingly the new Verna is identical to the city in terms of length. I like the design of alloy wheels as it helps to make the car look more sporty and pleasing. Overall Exteriors are nice but will not make your mouth go wow for its looks.
The interiors of the car are one of the most talking points of the car and is definitely a step up from the previous gen car. Be it the sporty leather steering wheel or the nice looking 7.0-inch touchscreen which is the best unit in the class, As the screen is very responsive to the touch inputs and sound is also impressive. The new Verna is even more stiffer than the outgoing car and it shows as u sit because of the rock solid feel of the dashboard and by its handling also. One thing to notice is that u sit very low in Verna as compared to its competition which is a let down as u there are visibility issues in the front,
But knowing this Hyundai Verna has given the feature of the driver’s seat-height adjust which moves the entire seat rather than merely change the angle of the seat base as in the last Verna. Ventilated seats are a welcome feature as it cools down the front seats in no time which is a very helpful feature especially in Summers!! Overall Interiors are nice and much more improved than the previous car.
ENGINE & PERFORMANCE:- ( 9.5/10)
The new Hyundai Verna carries forward the four-cylinder 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines from the old model, though, they have been suitably tweaked for use here and also see revisions in their power and torque outputs. Firstly talking about the petrol counterparts, The new petrol engine produces around 123hp of max power but now it takes more 100 rpm to generate peak power band, Torque is also reduced by 4nm thereby making a peak torque of 151nm, What is improved is the low end pulling powe as now the car will not feel dull under 1500 rpm as revvs need to build fast and thus help the car to move forward through ease.
Also the welcome change is the introduction of new 6 speed gearbox in petrol as compared to the 5 speed in the earlier petrol Verna, Which will certainly help to increase performance. But the talking point is that high speeds there is no fun as u feel in other cars like the Honda city as at higher speeds the power is flat, No signs of grunt which u need at the top end as When driving with heavy foot you will surely realize something is missing.
Diesel engine on the other hand is clearly the opposite of petrol. 128 hp of power at the peak torque of 280mm. Clearly by paper much powerful than the petrol but what are the figures in reality!!! Well things go in the favour of diesel only as the engine is super refined and an engine which loves to be revved. Enthusiastic drivers looking for fun at open roads and ghat section should definitely look for diesel. As its got power, Raw fun which a car of this class needs.
At any open road no matter in which gear are u just you have to do is the put your foot down and just watch the Drama!!! Once again, gearshifts on the six-speed manual gearbox are nice and the clutch, though springy, has a progressive action. We expected the new Verna diesel to be quicker than the old one and it is. The new Verna’s 0-100kph time of 9.32sec betters the old car’s class-best figure by 0.4sec. Also the new Hyundai Verna is faster in in-gear acceleration than the previous car.
